Hearts & Minds 2018

A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE – Cinim’s 1st Annual Hearts & Minds Benefit Concert

Hearts & Minds 2018 - Cinim’s Inaugural BreathingRoomTM Benefit Concert to raise awareness of their award winning, youth mental health and wellness program. The concert was held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Leacock Theatre at Mount Royal University. The inspirational event featured singers John Stringer and Amy Bishop and local youth dance troupe, ReFreshed Crew.

JOHN STRINGER
John Stringer is a life teacher, healer, speaker, and Billboard charting singer-songwriter. He has a passion for music, community, and limitless love and light. He spoke to the audience about his personal journey to mental wellness in addition to his amazing vocal and guitar performance.

AMY BISHOP
Canadian-born singer-songwriter Amy Bishop moved to Calgary at a young age, and was raised in a musical household. She began her musical career around campfires, at block parties, and in church choir. Amy’s voice is a combination of smooth pavement and rough gravel, with an instinctive ability to craft stories into song, charm her listeners and hit any high note!

REFRESHED CREW
A local youth dance troupe supporting vulnerable youth in Calgary and Treay 7 First Nations communities. Through traditional and hip hop dance, they shared their experiences as youth in overcoming anxiety to live empowered, happy lives. Their vision is for youth “to walk in health, purpose and responsibility; overcoming obstacles, achieving life goals and opportunities for success.”

Each of the artists gave heartfelt performances and shared their own experiences with mental health and wellness. The venue for Hearts & Minds Benefit Concert was generously provided by Mount Royal University through a grant and Cinim’s ongoing partnership with the university. We thank our generous sponsors from last year’s event that helped to support BreathingRoom, clinically-proven to reduce stress, anxiety and depression in youth aged 13-24.

With 20% of Canadian youth living with a mental illness, BreathingRoom is helping get youth the support they need to live healthier, more fulfilled lives. As a young person having experienced the program said, “There are others who understand and have experienced what I have. I highly recommend giving BreathingRoom a chance!”

We are excited for the second annual Hearts & Minds Benefit Concert to be held in Fall 2019. Stay tuned for more details as we continue to change the narrative on mental health and wellness for youth.
